HAMSTEAK VOLuME MOTHER FuCKING NINE
YES
HELL YES
HELL FuCKING YES
My favorites so far are Crystalmethequins, Hate You (oh my GOD Hate You is so good, just, the way they took Love You and darkened it, down to the giggles at the end becoming cackles, and how they added little dubstep bits (which normally I’d HATE but no they’re tolerable in this song) to mirror Fuschia Witch, I think I may jsut explode all over my keyboard it’s so damn GOOD), Pumpkin Party In Sea Hitler’s Underwater Apocalypse. Actually, I’m going to do a track analysis.
1. Crystalmethequins - Good remix, I really liked the percussion and drivingly heavy melody. A bit repetetive, but ah well. Still awesome.
2. Anbroids - Squarewave, basically what was in the flash. Not really my thing, but it’s still a good song.
3. Trepidation - I really like the melody on this one, and the tempo. It’s really good.
4. Firefly - The instrumentation reminds me a little of Doctor, which I suppose is intentional since it’s a John song, by appearances.
5. Whistling Jackhammer - Didn’t really like this one too much. Not much to say, really.
6. Ugly Betty - Ditto for above.
7. Hate You - See wild screaming above about how Hate You is AWESOME and eargasmic. Gahhhh, I need a towel… My favorite.
8. PPISHUWA - Another good one. Fun and bouncy. I swear I’ve heard the tune before… I think someone posted a sampler? I remember them saying “DON’T WRITE IEVAN POLKKA DON’T WRITE IEVAN POLKKA”
9. Skaianet - Not one of my favorites. A little too thin in terms of stuff going on, I guess.
10. Another Jungle - Jane’s entry song. Me gusta.
11. GamerGrl - Bluh.
12. ASSAULT - I was skeptic at first, then it hit the GOTTA GO FAST part of the melody and now I’m in love. This should be Roxy’s drunken heroics soundtrack.
13. A Little Fight Mewsic - I really like this one too. In the same vein as ASSAULT but a little more relaxed. I think it’s a GCat song?
14. Austin, Atlantis - A little too choral for my tastes. Good song, though and I really like the piano a lot.
15. Despot - Didn’t really like this one for no real reason…
16. Stress - I have the version from the Sound Test compilation. I like this one a lot better, it’s really good.
17. Minihoof’s Adventure - … Ellipses …
18. Encore - Brass instruments! Also, finally a Jake song. The chimey bit at the beginning, I thought it was gonna become Showtime, haha. I like this one, each instrument comes together to make something beautiful. Oh wait there’s a little tiny bit of Showtime.. annnnnnnd there’s the whole thing. Huh. This song jsut got… SO MUCH BETTER OH GOD THIS IS BEAUTIFUL.
19. Expedition - I’ve looked at the art now and apparently this section of the album is all Jake. Hahahaha they’re all big adventurey-film-sounding pieces, seriously it’s like montage music. This is pretty cool.
20. Elephant Gun - Then suddenly, electronic stuff replaces the orchestral stuff. I’m 0kay with this. This one’s pretty bouncy and energetic, in contrast to the other themes which were grand and inspirational.
21. Miasmajesty - Ehh, too much bassy stuff imho. Good Dirk theme, though, a lot of recurring stuff with his themes. Woah what just happened? It’s like switching channels… Fragmented song, like a fragmented personality?
22. Jane Dargason - I don’t like this one. That skritchy vwooooop sound grates, and the tinkling bits are a little repetitive. Oh hey wait a minute, it’s reached the middling bit, I guess it’s okay. Bluh bump-grind-clap stuff at the end…
23. Before the Beginning and After the End - A nice, mellow, calm song. I personally think that this song represents the bonds between the Alpha players, which will change but never truly break. It feels happy.
24. Bridge of Stars - Eidolon Orpheus, I see you. I can hear your style. Kinda surprised there isn’t harpsichord in there somewhere though. Dem strings… Mmmm.
25. Cumulating Dreams - Intro is a bit tunnely, what with there being all treble no bass, but then they turn up that dial, so it’s good. And then the strings… Yes. I like the transition from chiptune to piano/strings and back.
26. Busting Makes Me Feel Good - GAH the autotune and repetition…. sal;jkvahsjojfgae no.
27. Everything is Something to Somebody - Piano, strings, a bittersweet title, and album art that makes it a Roxy song about how she fed the needy? Perfect. Except for the short bit where it feels offbeat, but that’s like two seconds.
28. iRRRRRRRRECONCILABLE - I’d already heard the demo version of this. I loved that. I love this finished version even more. Electric guitar + pseudo-Spanish acoustic guitar = me trying not to explode all over my keyboard again. OH GOD THE SHREDS AT THE END GOTTA HOLD IT IN… Ahhh, nope, that explosion at the end finished me. I love this song. Second favorite.
29. I’m a Member of the Midnight Crew (Post-Punk) - Vocals could use a liiiiiiiitle work, but I do like the instrumentation a lot.
30. Three in the Morning (Aftermath) - As always with 3itM remixes, I like it. Combined with the album art it’s a very sad piece… I’m gonna learn this as soon as I can. Goddamn I used to HATE Roxy, now it just seems like she needs a hug. Poor her.
31. Lancer - DD’s in his room, playing that cello (I think?) as his Miles burn Derse down around him. So slick.
32. Three’s a Crowd - Woah, this is another bit of 3itM but all electrified. Gah those tunnely drums are going to be grating I can tell. Piano is good, though.
33. Break Shot - Suddenly, Lord Engliiiiiiiish! … This is different from other Felt-associated stuff… Very dissonant-sounding, with a lot of electronic stuff thrown in amidst those strings. Bluh.
34. Portrait - Not bad. Alternates between keyboard bits and heavy lead guitars for the melody. I really like this. *checks art* oh look it’s a ROXY THEME
35. Negative Aperture - Sawtooth track, aw yeah. Repetitive, but still pretty cool.
36. Sweet Dreams, Timaeus - I’ve come to associate Derse and Dersites and Derse Dreamers with awesome things. I think I may choose to fall asleep to this tonight.
37. Red Miles - Definitely not what I was expecting to hear. This is a lot calmer than I’d have expected. It is just as menacing, though. I like this.
38. The Changing Game - I don’t really know what I think of this track. i like it, but haven’t really formulated anything to support or negate that yet. Might take a few listens to do that.
39. Requited - I swear I’ve heard that piano before. I swear. Can anyone help me with that? Was it in Love You? My friend has informed me it’s from Serenade. Can’t believe I forgot that…
40. Princess of Helium - The beginning sounds a little similar to Sarabande, but only a little. I like this calm piano piece. It’s a little tunnely though, wish it was less distorted.
41. Moonsetter - I heard Radiation’s preview for this. the final version is awesome. It’s bouncy but not too overly energetic, and the strings really help add to the melody.
42. Candles and Clockwork (Alpha Version) - I like this and the original equally. They’re pretty good.
43. Coursing - The album took a turn for the orchestral a few tracks back, forgot to mention. This one’s okay.
44. Cairo Overcoat - Oh wow, that track art is almost enough to restore fear of LE in me. This one’s also a little dissonant.
45. Battle Against an Unfathomable Enemy - OH HELL YES. Back into electronic stuff. the heavily distorted bass makes for a really good intro. I can see this being a battle song, though it is a little calm. It does have its speedy bits, though, so yeah. God this song is great.
46. Noirscape - Overdrive. Guitar. Black. HELL FuCKING YES. This is probably my third favorite out off this album.
47. Dogfight - Wow, all this guitar. Me gusta mucho. Oh jegus, dat shredding and… mmmmmmmmmmmm it’s even got the reversing effects from Black Hole / Green Sun. Oh yeah strings and brass just kicked in. Yes. Tied with Noirscape for 3.
48. A Taste For Adventure - Where’ve we heard this one, again? Batterwitch’s arrival? I like this, especially after it kicks in with the strong beats and strokes. Very grandiose and awesome.
49. Stargaze - I like how the album art mirrors that one picture with the Alpha kids sitting under a tree in the sunlight. The piece itself is short and bittersweet. I like it.
Haven’t purchased it yet, so dunno about the bonus tracks. All in all, I REALLY REALLY REALLY liked this album, can’t wait till I can get it. Excellent job, music team! :D
